What is Marketed?

Marketing people market 10 types ofentities. They are:

Goods: Physical goods thatmay be manufactured, produced in farms or mined. These account for

the bulk of the marketing efforts inmost of the countries.

Services: These areintangible products that involve performing some service for the customers.

This may be service performed on thecustomer, like a haircut, on customer’s possessions, like

servicing of car, or for the customer,like screening of a movie. Services account the maximum

services has exceeded that of goods.

Events: Time based showssuch as new year celebration, or a sporting event.

Experiences: Experiences whichresults from a combination of products and services. The customer

is interested in the total experiencesuch as an organized holiday tour package rather than the

individual products and servicesincluded in the package.

Persons: Like marketing of acelebrity or of a candidate in a public election.

Places: Like cities, state,nations, for purposes such as attracting tourists and investment.

Properties: This could bephysical properties like real estate or intangible rights in properties.

Organizations: This basicallyrefers to building positive image of organizations, such as companies,

universities, and charitableorganizations.

Information: Books are thetraditional means of selling information, but there are many other type

of information marketed. For examplemarket intelligence, economic analysis and mailing lists.

Ideas: Every marketoffering includes a basic idea. In addition ideas may be marketed bythemselves.

For examples, some religious bodiestry to promote their ideas of what constitutes the right behavior.

Company Orientations to theMarketplace

What philosophy should guide a companymarketing and selling efforts? What relative weights

should be given to the interests ofthe organization, the customers, and society? These interest

often clash, however, an organization’smarketing and selling activities should be carried out under

activities:
